Spring Garden Pillow

The bright flowers on our hammock pillow are all Janome Memory Card designs that have been altered using the Janome Digitizer 10000. Each flower was expanded to the height of the large "B" hoop, included with the Memory Craft 10000, to give a uniform appearance to the entire design. Some elements of the original designs such as flowers, stems or leaves were added or deleted to achieve the desired effect.
The integrity of the original design is always maintained after any adjustments are made to the size or shape because the stitch count will automatically recalculate proportionately from the original design. With the Digitizer 10000, anyone can create an "original design" by making subtle changes to existing embroidery designs.

The original design is a composite of 3 flowers. Open the Digitizer Easy Design. From the File menu select OPEN. Scroll to the saved location of this file, double click to open. (Refer to the Memory Craft Instruction Manual for the various methods of saving designs to a computer file.)

Use the SELECT tool to draw a bounding box around the center flower.
The selected area will turn turquoise. With the desired area selected, select COPY on the top toolbar, then select PASTE on the top toolbar. A new flower will appear on the screen. Click on this new flower and drag it away from the original design.

Click on the NEW icon on the top toolbar,to open a new blank screen. Click PASTE on the top toolbar and the single flower will appear. Click on a blank area of the screen to unselect the entire design.
Click the SELECT tool again, click on the right leaf. Place the cursor on the top right, solid black anchor point, click and drag down to reduce the size of the leaf. Click anywhere within the anchor boxes to change the appearance of the boxes from solid black to open. Between the open anchor points is an open triangle (red arrow). Click and drag the triangle to the right, to skew the leaf. Repeat for the left leaf.
Additional stylizing can be done to the leaves by using the RESHAPE tool option. Click the SELECT icon, click on the left leaf. Click on the EDIT menu, scroll to RESHAPE or click the RESHAPE icon on the lower toolbar. A new set of adjustment points will appear on the leaf.

Click on the highlighted point at the top of the leaf. Click and drag this to the left. Next, click on the other top point, then drag in the same direction. You will see that the leaf is forming a new shape. Click ENTER when the placement is satisfactory.
Each adjustment point can be moved in order to distribute the stitch flow in the new shape.
Hint: Use the ZOOM option to view the stitch direction and make the appropriate changes. In some cases the type of stitch may need to be changed from a satin stitch to a weave option.

While the leaf is still selected, reduce its size and place it at the base of the existing flower.

The flower is now ready to be enlarged for our project.
Click SETUP on the top toolbar, click WORK ENVIRONMENT and select the "B" hoop option. The larger hoop will appear on the screen.

Click the EDIT menu from the top toolbar, then click SELECT ALL. With the entire flower highlighted, click and drag any corner to enlarge the flower to fit within the "B" hoop.
At any ime, you can change the color of any selected parts. Using the tools described above, in addition to other options within the Janome Digitizer, unlimited variations to existing designs can be made easily. Pictured below are other variations used in this project.
