Digitized Refrigerator Art Quilt by Sandra Clark Digitized Refrigerator Art Quilt by Sandra Clark
Quilt with designs digitized from children's artwork. As the mother of three very creative girls, I often had more art than refrigerator. Just about the time my girls advanced out of the scribbling stage, the sewing machine companies marketed the first embroidery digitizing programs for the home sewer. My passion for machine embroidery was fueled by my girls’ artwork -- and this unique, family quilt was the end result.

Grosgrain Ribbon Belts and Keychain by Marie Zinn Grosgrain Ribbon Belts and Keychain by Marie Zinn
Ribbon Rage has swept the country. You see ribbon on clothing, purses, jewelry and even suitcases at the airport. And if you’re traveling with the younger set - you’ll see ribbon on their snazzy little belts or their key chain holders. I’ve designed these projects to mimic what I’ve been seeing at the mall. An important element is the ribbon itself. You want to purchase a high quality grosgrain (pronounced grow-gran). This particular ribbon holds up well and is very strong. It also happens to be the perfect choice for machine embroidery.

Herky Jerky House by Marge Chamberlain Herky Jerky House by Marge Chamberlain
Do you need a special housewarming gift? Here’s the project for you -- quick, colorful and charming! The machine embroidered appliqué design is used not only as a quilt block appliqué but also as the quilting motif in the blank blocks. Herky jerky describes the scribble-like stitches that finish each appliqué section. It’s a whimsical touch to simple appliqué designs.

KISS: Placemat Tote Bag by Marie Zinno KISS: Placemat Tote Bag by Marie Zinno
Recently while shopping at the mall, I found some great square placemats. They were made out of a beautiful green faux suede. I’ve made hundreds of purses out of rectangular placemats, but this square shape gave me a new idea. Tote bags! No woman can ever have enough tote bags. Maybe your sister needs a tote bag for her office lunch or an extra pair of shoes. How about a special library tote bag for your friend’s rotating overdue books? This particular tote bag is the perfect size to carry to a waiting room - if you want to tote some magazines, a book or even a knitting project.

Quilting with Embroidery by Barbara Hartman Quilting with Embroidery by Barbara Hartman
Quilting a wall hanging with beautiful embroidery. People often ask if I like to quilt. Actually, I don’t like to quilt, but I love to piece. With home embroidery machines, not only can the block be decorated with embroidery, but the quilting can also be part of the machine embroidery. It’s wonderful. This technique allows for all the fun of piecing and embroidery without having to do the quilting.
